Brown's passes out your name and phone number to anyone..
Brown's will give your ID information to anyone. I had a car towed for blocking me in at an apartment (when there were plenty of empty spaces). The driver was really nice and said (paraphrase) "I bet they won't do that again... Just need your ID, but your info is between you and me. No one else will ever see it."
A few hours later an angry landlord is calling me telling me that he has all my ID info and is going to file a lawsuit! He had my name and number!
It wasn't his car so why did they give HIM my information?
There were creepy looking guys standing around my car after that. I was scared to move it. Brown's took the money from the car's owner AND gave out my ID information.
Excessive towing fees?.
We had purchased a pop-up tent trailer for shipment from Bloomington, Illinois to our city. We arranged for shipping but the shipper needed a means to get the trailer on the semi-tractor flatbed, hence the tow truck. It should not have taken more than half an hour. He charged $75 (had to be bartered) where as $40-$50 would have been more reasonable to pull a trailer up a ramp.
Towing services serve a need but they also seem to charge "too much" with the explanation that they have to cover their fuel, vehicle insurance and cradle insurance (separate). Spread over a year and the number of tows per wrecker, the fraction of that fee charged to one tow should not be that much (unless they are not working much). When I read other people's complaints of other company towing fees, perhaps we did not pay too much for this little bit of work...
